Dr Jim McMorran graduated from Oxford University in 1993 before undertaking general practice training in the Mersey Deanery. He joined Kenyon Medical Centres as a GP Principal in 1998, bringing with him a passion for education, chronic disease management, and cancer screening.
Alongside his work in general practice, Dr McMorran has held several influential roles in education and clinical leadership. He lectured and organised courses at the University of Warwick from 1997 to 2010, and since 2014, has served as a GP Advisor to NHS screening programmes. He was also appointed as the NHS West Midlands Cancer Alliance/Cancer Research UK GP Cancer Lead in 2016, supporting improvements in primary care cancer detection and management.
Since 2004, Dr McMorran has been a GP with a Specialist Interest in Diabetes and Cardiovascular Risk, providing expertise for practices across Coventry and Rugby, and applying this specialist knowledge to his work at Kenyon Medical Centres. In 2015, he was appointed as Chronic Conditions GP Lead for Coventry and Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group, ensuring best practices in managing long-term health conditions.
Beyond his clinical and academic contributions, Dr McMorran is the Editor-in-Chief of GPnotebook (www.gpnotebook.co.uk) , a widely used online resource for doctors in the UK and internationally, a role he has held since 2001.
Outside of medicine, he is a dedicated athlete and a member of Stratford Athletics Club, regularly participating in running and “beer relay” events. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he has taken part in Ironman and Hydrox multisport events, pushing his limits in endurance sports.
